Smitten with Mittens

I am in the first photo, circa 1972. This photo takes me back as I fondly remember my favorite doll “Tina” & the simplicity and wonderment of childhood. Thanks to my sweet Mom for making every Christmas feel magical. I loved laying under the Christmas tree, the sweet aroma of pine, staring at a nativity illuminated by a simple blue light bulb. All was calm & bright.

At my home I light a Williams Sonoma spiced chestnut candle every autumn well beyond Christmas day. For me and my family, this is the scent of the season and the aroma of our home.

In the second and third photo, are examples of mittens I have been creating. My dear friend Lisa K. taught me how to create felted mittens as we followed a youtube video at her welcoming home last month. Selling real estate allows me the chance to view many homes, hundreds in fact over the years, and hers still remains one of my all time favorites.

Fast forward a few weeks later and my poor kitchen and dining room haven’t been the same. I decided to make mittens as gifts this year and it snowballed into an evening obsession. I was greatly supported by fellow agents in my office who purchased these one-of-a kind creations for their loved ones. A shout out to Anne K. who resembles the gorgeous actress Michelle Pfeiffer, who purchased numerous pairs. Thanks Anne!!!

I’ll be heading to Evanston soon to pick up my son Cade for the holidays. He has planned a weekend of ice skating, Chicago style deep dish pizza and a visit to a classic German Christmas community for us to enjoy. Soon my home will be filled with merriment & laugher and that is the best present a girl can ask for.

Wishing you a season of joy, peace & most importantly love.

XO-L

Yes, Sir. Sir Elton John that is!

Somebody went to see Elton John…. and the night was epic. Anna & I road tripped it to Bettendorf, Iowa to see Elton in concert. We arrived with Boa’s around our necks and huge smiles on our faces. We sang, we danced, we laughed… and I cried when he played Tiny Dancer. It was a magical night with my sweet girl. One in which I will never forget. XOXO- Anna Gabrielle.

YOUR SONG

It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide, I
Don’t have much money but boy, if I did
I’d buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
Oh, I know it’s not much but it’s the best I can do
My gift is my song
And this one’s for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked up the moss
Well, a few of the verses, well, they’ve got me quite cross
But the sun’s been quite kind
While I wrote this song
It’s for people like you that
Keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting
But these things, I do
You see, I’ve forgotten
If they’re green or they’re blue
Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but
Now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

Handmade

As an artist, I constantly feel the need to create. I look forward to this time of year, not only for it’s cooler temperatures and dynamic fall colors, but because it is when I enroll in an adult education evening class. The classes that I have selected in past years have included photography, sewing, cake decorating, and several on crochet. Next on my radar is knitting. Seriously, boredom is not in my vocabulary!

I am really fascinated with Irish Aran sweaters. I hope that someday I will be skilled enough to make one of my own.  If you are already an advanced knitter, Raverly.com has some really great patterns.

I had the good fortune of purchasing a couple vintage Irish, hand knitted fisherman sweaters on one of my recent thrift store adventures. Knowing that now days, these are made with machines and that a different type of wool is used, makes me appreciate mine even more.

My mother-in-law told me once, that her mother had pointed out to her how special handmade items are. So this is a piece of advise that I’d like to share with you. And as a result, my Pinterest “Handmade” page is one of my largest.

So as the evenings gradually grow dark earlier & cooler temps are inevitable, I challenge you to learn something new.

Wise words

may your walls

know joy;

may each room

hold laughter,

and may every window

open to great possibility

My job as a realtor allows me such an intimate glimpse inside the world of my clients. Today I listed a home of a past client.  I once knew them as a couple with fresh hopes and dreams who were newly engaged at the time of their first home purchase. Fast forward a few years later and today they are blessed with a newborn baby, job advancements & poof, a new chapter begins. With careful guidance, I get the pleasure of being included in this transition.

Their baby, Maxine…her sweet blue eyes and delicate auburn hair is just the sweetest thing ever. I won’t mind seeing that sweet face as much as possible.  I saw her adorable bedroom looking like a page from Anthropologie and loved how it was decorated with both modern and Mid-Centurn modern furnishings. My favorite was a sweet little chair that adorned the room that was once belonged to my clients grandmother. These one-of-a-kind elements is what makes a house truly a home. Collections, new, old, reflecting those who are in possession….It began to rain as I placed a for sale sign in the yard.

It was a good day.

MIKA-in my opinion, magnificent

SCENARIO: It’s late, I procrastinated painting all day so Annabelle played me some energizing beats. WOW, this guy is fabulous!

We made a 7:30 p.m. excursion to Lowe’s to purchase my favorite trim brush, the 2″ Purdy Clearcut before I even got started. Once the music played, it was game on. Have you heard of this guy, Mika? And while the music is loud, and we are laughing and dancing, this little one sleeps thru it all.

imageMy new sofa is being delivered tomorrow. A classic linen English roll arm that I purchased from Boxwoods Interiors. Anna has been gracing them with her talents for a while now.

A glimpse inside Boxwoods Interiors

I have no doubt this one is headed into the right creative direction. I asked her how she puts these amazing displays together without any assistance, and her reply “It’s like painting a picture”.
