“Time began in a garden”

I can’t believe it’s mid June already. I have spent most of my mornings tending to my own garden, before my realtor duties kick in. I have incorporated blue and white into my outdoor spaces, with a gracious nod to one of my favorite designers Mark D. Sikes.

Cupcakz was dropped off to the painter this week. I decided to have a custom mix from my trusted Benjamin Moore paint deck. White dove, and Spectra blue. I will definitely be sharing the before and after pics with you once she is back home. The painter was so enthusiastic he told me that he wouldn’t be able to sleep after I dropped the Shasta off to him. That definitely put a smile on my face.

We have planned our annual camping trip to Estes Park, Colorado and I can hardly wait to spend cool evenings enjoying the soft scent of pine and mountain fresh air. This will be our first trip to Colorado with the Shasta, I’m sure we will turn a few heads. My husband and I laugh, because we sometimes feel like the camper was dropped from outer space when we are typically surrounded by much more modern recreational motor vehicles. I love that we draw a crowd of people, who are curious and willings to have light hearted conversation.

I had the pleasure of working with amazing clients this past month. A retired cardiologist who has a huge generous heart of his own.

Get outside, it’s great exercise. Both mentally and physically.

2018 Color of the year

e7d7dfe9a006ce0cdcf1e97c1bb6f6aa475868df

Every January I anxiously await the announcement of Pantone’s color of the year. I entertained the pale shades of soft pink and light blue last year, by mostly incorporating it into my wardrobe. I am drawn to neutrals for interiors and love a modern mix of traditional and contemporary as shown in this lovely room by House of Harper.

I was a bit shocked to discover that this years color is a bright ultra violet.

So be on the lookout for this vibrant color…whether it is in interiors, or fashion…

Will you be a fan?

Smitten with Mittens

I am in the first photo, circa 1972. This photo takes me back as I fondly remember my favorite doll “Tina” & the simplicity and wonderment of childhood. Thanks to my sweet Mom for making every Christmas feel magical. I loved laying under the Christmas tree, the sweet aroma of pine, staring at a nativity illuminated by a simple blue light bulb. All was calm & bright.

At my home I light a Williams Sonoma spiced chestnut candle every autumn well beyond Christmas day. For me and my family, this is the scent of the season and the aroma of our home.

In the second and third photo, are examples of mittens I have been creating. My dear friend Lisa K. taught me how to create felted mittens as we followed a youtube video at her welcoming home last month. Selling real estate allows me the chance to view many homes, hundreds in fact over the years, and hers still remains one of my all time favorites.

Fast forward a few weeks later and my poor kitchen and dining room haven’t been the same. I decided to make mittens as gifts this year and it snowballed into an evening obsession. I was greatly supported by fellow agents in my office who purchased these one-of-a kind creations for their loved ones. A shout out to Anne K. who resembles the gorgeous actress Michelle Pfeiffer, who purchased numerous pairs. Thanks Anne!!!

I’ll be heading to Evanston soon to pick up my son Cade for the holidays. He has planned a weekend of ice skating, Chicago style deep dish pizza and a visit to a classic German Christmas community for us to enjoy. Soon my home will be filled with merriment & laugher and that is the best present a girl can ask for.

Wishing you a season of joy, peace & most importantly love.

Yes, Sir. Sir Elton John that is!

Somebody went to see Elton John…. and the night was epic. Anna & I road tripped it to Bettendorf, Iowa to see Elton in concert. We arrived with Boa’s around our necks and huge smiles on our faces. We sang, we danced, we laughed… and I cried when he played Tiny Dancer. It was a magical night with my sweet girl. One in which I will never forget. XOXO- Anna Gabrielle.

YOUR SONG

It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide, I
Don’t have much money but boy, if I did
I’d buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
Oh, I know it’s not much but it’s the best I can do
My gift is my song
And this one’s for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked up the moss
Well, a few of the verses, well, they’ve got me quite cross
But the sun’s been quite kind
While I wrote this song
It’s for people like you that
Keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting
But these things, I do
You see, I’ve forgotten
If they’re green or they’re blue
Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but
Now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

Handmade

As an artist, I constantly feel the need to create. I look forward to this time of year, not only for it’s cooler temperatures and dynamic fall colors, but because it is when I enroll in an adult education evening class. The classes that I have selected in past years have included photography, sewing, cake decorating, and several on crochet. Next on my radar is knitting. Seriously, boredom is not in my vocabulary!

I am really fascinated with Irish Aran sweaters. I hope that someday I will be skilled enough to make one of my own.  If you are already an advanced knitter, Raverly.com has some really great patterns.

I had the good fortune of purchasing a couple vintage Irish, hand knitted fisherman sweaters on one of my recent thrift store adventures. Knowing that now days, these are made with machines and that a different type of wool is used, makes me appreciate mine even more.

My mother-in-law told me once, that her mother had pointed out to her how special handmade items are. So this is a piece of advise that I’d like to share with you. And as a result, my Pinterest “Handmade” page is one of my largest.

So as the evenings gradually grow dark earlier & cooler temps are inevitable, I challenge you to learn something new.
